At Queen Mira International School (QMIS), we believe that being globally ready begins with being deeply rooted. In an interconnected world where cultures converge, children need more than academic competence to thrive — they need identity, cultural consciousness, empathy, and a profound respect for humanity. Our endeavour at QMIS is to nurture young minds anchored in Indian heritage while remaining open to the plurality of the world around them.
Values Into Everyday Practice
Our school culture consciously turns values into daily habit. One simple yet powerful custom is encouraging children to greet one another with “Jai Hind.” What looks like a routine salutation carries deeper meaning — it invokes national pride, gratitude, and collective belonging. Woven into daily interactions, patriotism becomes part of school life rather than a sentiment reserved for national occasions. It also reminds children that love for one’s country must coexist with respect for every individual, regardless of background or ability.
Celebrating History, Living Its Lessons
National celebrations bring history alive at QMIS. The 80th Independence Day celebration was a memorable confluence of patriotism, cultural expression, discipline, and gratitude, with students taking part in dance performances, cultural presentations, and the NCC parade. These experiences move children beyond merely knowing the names of freedom fighters, to appreciating the courage and sacrifice that shaped the nation’s destiny.
The ceremonial flag hoisting, patriotic songs, and collective participation of the school community evoke a shared sense of unity. Standing together beneath the Tricolour, children experience citizenship as a shared responsibility — understanding that the freedoms they inherit come with an obligation to serve and uphold democratic values.
From National Pride to Global Belonging
Our vision of citizenship extends beyond India’s geographical contours. Indian cultural values provide the foundation for a broader global outlook. The philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family — offers a meaningful bridge between cultural rootedness and global citizenship. Children learn to see diversity as an opportunity to learn and collaborate, so that cultural pride never curdles into insularity.
The Student Anthem, sung daily, embodies this universal dimension. Its message transcends nationality, gently reminding every child that they are not just a student of a school or a citizen of a country, but also a member of a shared global community.
Gratitude as Practice
Our celebrations also create space for gratitude and reciprocal respect. Teacher’s Day, for instance, becomes an opportunity for students to take initiative, collaborate, and organise — developing leadership, communication, and emotional intelligence, and learning that genuine respect is best expressed through thoughtful action.
Culture as a Way of Being
At QMIS, culture is not confined to festivals or costumes. It lives in the way we speak, greet, collaborate, and care for one another — each moment an informal classroom where values are modelled and internalised.
The essence of “Rooted and Ready” lies in a delicate balance: knowing our heritage without being confined by it, taking pride in our nation without diminishing another, and celebrating our uniqueness while recognising our shared humanity. Children who know their roots have the confidence to engage with the world; children who understand diversity have the wisdom to navigate it.
Rooted in heritage. Guided by values. Open to diversity. Ready for the world.
