If you’ve ever wondered what a typical day for a QMIS student looks like, fasten your seatbelts! Being a student here can be both exciting and challenging. On one hand, we are pursuing our academic goals; on the other, we are trying to balance our interests, extracurricular activities and the endless stream of school events. Somehow, it all fits into one day!
The Start of the Day
A typical day for a QMIS student begins with getting ready for school and catching the school bus. From the moment I arrive, there is always something happening around me—classes, practical sessions in the labs, class tests, conversations, or simply spending time with the people who make school more enjoyable.
By 8:40 a.m., the once-empty classrooms come alive with discussions, laughter and the occasional moment of chaos.
The Classes
Classes at QMIS are usually a mix of academics, arts and extracurricular activities, so the day rarely feels monotonous. Our subjects range from Science and Social Science to languages, but not every class takes place inside a classroom.
For the lower grades, the timetable includes performing arts and martial arts. I’ve often seen students practically racing towards the studios, excited to get to their next activity.
For the higher grades, we have BFIT (sports class) almost every day, which is something I personally enjoy. It means there is always at least one class during the day where we can step away from our books, move around and simply unwind.
The lower graders have their own perk too—they get opportunities to visit the library and immerse themselves in storybooks.
Other Spaces
Once or twice a week, we have Foster Parent Lunch or Circle Time. These sessions are a little different from regular classes. We get to talk to one another, share our thoughts with our peers and mentors, and have conversations where everyone gets a chance to be seen, heard and understood.
The teachers check in with us—not just about our studies, but about how we’re doing overall.
When the final bell rings, many students don’t head straight home, as you might expect.
Some head off to football practice, others go skating, and some even head for rifle shooting with their friends. By four, the whole ground seems to come alive.
The classrooms grow quieter while the campus fills with students doing what they love. As the day winds down, I finally head home.
Nothing extraordinary—just a good day, good people, and a lot of little moments that I’ll probably think about later.
So, yeah, this is a typical day in the life of a QMIS student!
And that is what makes a day at QMIS more than just a school day—it’s a mix of learning, laughter, friendships, activities and a little bit of organised chaos!
